I also have lots of new ideas thanks to a trip to the city that netted me the May issue of Burda magazine and a simple Simplicity pattern (that one was unexpected since Simplicity is not sold in Canada...) I'm hoping to get to at least ONE of these plans before the end of May! How does time go by so quickly?
I also had a good thrifting week. I found this amazing patternmaker's ruler for $7 and couldn't say no.
And I also came across two patterns from first gen Indie pattern companies: the "Flounce About Jacket" by Saf-T-Pockets, and the "Kusamba Dress etc" by the Batik Butik, for $1 each. I'd never heard of the second company so when I eventually get around to trying these out I'll have to see if they're worth exploring further! I like finding unusual things when I'm thrifting and changing up my sewing room a little.

DeleteNice finds at the thrift store. At my ASG meeting last night, one of the women showed us TWO Style Arc patterns she had found at the thrift store. Now that's an amazing find. I know few people who sew and even fewer who would have bought - then tossed out - a paper pattern from Australia!

DeleteUnfortunately Style Arc only make patterns in one size per pattern which can be a bit limiting as a person's body measurements change. So I imagine, if somebody grew out of a size it would just be redundant. At least they didn't throw the pattern out in recycling. That was a find if the size is yours.
DeleteWhere did you pick up the Burda magazine? I am in Ontario and the only store that carried them doesn't anymore due to the closing of German-Canadian Publications.
ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn - I was lucky and found it in Toronto - in a little magazine shop called Gateway Newstand,at 65 Front St.W nearish to the train station (between Union Stn & the St Lawrence Market). It was the British edition so they must be getting it direct from the UK. Apparently it's also available at the Presse Internationale shop at 537 Bloor W. but I haven't been there recently myself.
DeleteHi Melanie, I once had the Kusamba dress pattern. I must have given it away, which is a shame as looking at it now, it is a really nice comfortable looking pattern. And the ruler.... now that is a bargain!

DeleteThe ruler was pretty exciting to find as well -- now I have no excuse not to get busy trying to learn more about pattern drafting ;)
